Deposit Safes at the Admissions Gate

Many Amusements and Amusement Parks employ deposit safes at their gates as a way to insure their cash admissions get deposited and to deter any would be thieves, and these work very well.  A deposit safe relies on one all important piece of hardware to function, the Dollar Bill Acceptor or Dollar Bill Validator (BV).   These devices accept the cash as it is fed into them and perform some very important functions in a very short period of time!

First the device ascertains the denomination of the inserted bill.  It then checks the bill to insure it is the genuine article and not a counterfeit.  Any bill that cannot be recognized as a proper denomination and / or a genuine US treasury note is rejected and returned to the user.  Once these two tests have been passed, the BV keeps track of the number of bills of each denomination and the total value of the accepted cash in the safe.

Because this device has to perform many different checks to insure that a bill is genuine and to classify its denomination correctly, the BV simply MUST be clean and free from any contaminants to perform these tests properly! Fortunately, there is a very simple way to clean these devices and it only requires that you feed in a cleaning card just like you would real bills.

The cleaning cards for these devices are designed in conjunction with the device manufacturers and are approved by the equipment manufacturers for cleaning these BVs. Simply open the sealed pouch containing the pre-moistened cleaning card and insert the card into the BV several times–typically 6 or more times to give the cleaning solution an opportunity to loosen any contaminants that may be stuck to the inside of the unit in the dollar bill path. The solution used on these cards is alcohol free so that the use of the cards will not damage the rollers and belts that drive the device.

By keeping your deposit safes on a regularly scheduled maintenance program, you will keep the BVs clean and you can have faith in the device’s ability to discern genuine US currency from counterfeit. This will lower the possibility that your organization will lose money by granting access to someone who is trying to pay with “funny money”. Being able to deny access to someone who is trying to pass phony bills prevents the use of counterfeit currency in your concessions found within your organization. This will help you stop even more losses from humans taking counterfeit bills at these stands.
